Almafi - Italian Holiday Part III

Friday, 12 May 2023 Banbury, UK

Amalfi Town is located on the Coast of Italy. It is a popular destination for tourists who want to enjoy the beautiful beaches, clear blue waters, and scenic views but of course for the shopping and culinary experience. The charming towns with their colorful buildings and narrow streets offer a glimpse into the Italian way of life.
You can also enjoy local cuisine, including fresh seafood, homemade pasta, and gelato but avoid very touristy areas, and perhaps that may not necessarily offer the best of what Italy had to offer.

By the way, if you haven't read my previous post about parts I (Minori) and II (Pompeii & Capri) of my Italian holiday, please find them here and here.

The area also has many historical and cultural attractions, such as ancient Roman ruins and medieval castles on this note we decided to pay a visit to the ancient nobility of Almafi or most famously known as the Grand Cathedral of St. Andrew which stands tall and proud right in the middle of the center town, you surely cannot miss it.
With its baroque-style façade and striking bell tower, it was a stunning sight to behold as I said you cannot miss it.

Stepping inside, I was immediately struck by the soaring ceilings with intricate frescoes adorning the walls. As I continued to explore, I took in the many ornate chapels, each one as awe-inspiring as the last. The Cappella del Crocifisso, with its magnificent golden altarpiece depicting the Crucifixion, was particularly breathtaking.

Despite being packed with visitors, the cathedral emanated a peaceful aura with the soft glow of candlelight and the distant hum of Gregorian chants filling the space. The ambiance was almost hypnotic and difficult to leave.

Overall, the Amalfi Coast offers a unique and unforgettable experience for travelers visiting Italy.
